Flash programming of pic (by Evan Raftery)
Is there a way of updating the program of pic via use of CF card or similar? Would avoid need for hooking computer up every time.

All the features of our PC-based programmers can now be carried in the palm of your hand! Use the familiar melabs Programmer software to create a memory card with option settings, configuration data, and program code. Slip the memory card into the melabs Field Programmer and you're good to go - anywhere!

Thanks for the link. Trouble is that you would have to send the whole shebang to where ever you wanted to update.
I was after a card based update so a card could be sent via mail or emailed to someone t load the file.
For anyone interested I found this circuit that does the job. Will test soon and report.

that last post of mine was erroneous. The circuit is for a data logger. Wuld need some sort of boot loader to flash pic from card.

May be you can put the pic in A ZIF socket and swap the pic with A new one.
This is the way it is done in big industrial machines.

David.

Yes, I explored that one & it seems the most feasible although it involves inexperienced people accessing the control panel. I explored updating via GSM too but have had a PLC freeze during upload with unintended consequences on one occasion.
