Unused Pin (by Goran)
What to do with PGD, PGM,PGC pins (16F877A) which I use only for programing, to leave them float or make them input and with 10k resistor to GND?

never leave float pull up/down with 10k

I dislike necromancing threads as much as I dislike asking stupid noob questions but here I am doing both......

I'm preparing to use a 16F877A as well, do ANY unused I/Os get pulled down with a 10k?

Also would it be better for power consumption to pull them up with a 10K rather than down?

Sorry guys I'm cross eyed from reading the data sheet and if there's any useful information on the subject in there I can't find it.

I never use pullups or pulldown resistors with unsused pins (except the MCLR pin).
I never had any problems, not even with a 16F628a circuit in a electric bike.

If you have doubts then make them output(low), but I am sure it will work if you do nothing with those pins.

Still a little hazy, there's contradicting information all over the internet.
I'm going to let them float in my ptototype and if they do anything odd I'll pull them up with a 1k.

Logically pulling them down means they draw power from or through the MCU.
