Do you have any tricks to free up some space in a ldmicro program ?

My program count 55 rugs and I have (4) formated strig over UART for a total of 78% used memory in a PIC16F887, I woul like to add a UART receive fonction, but I receive the message

(internal error relating to pic paging; make the program smaller or reshuffle it)

What is the best for memory saving...

a couple of big and complex rugs
or
hundreds of small and simple rugs
