LDmicro Forum - What is the logic ( magic) behind input pins of quadrature encoder function

What is the logic ( magic) behind input pins of quadrature encoder function (by Ziggy)
I would like to interface a motor with a quadrature encoder on the motor shaft to LDmicro and control the speed and position.

The problem is the motor shaft speed. The encoder pulse rate calls for a very short PLC cycle.

This nudges me into a solution whihc will preclude me from using quadrature signal, that is to say i will have to use only a single channel from the encoder.

Timing problem a little bit more relaxed.

My dilema... What is the magic behind the input pin so that no pulse is lost during operation?
Is there some clever scheme whereby the edge is uniquely identified?
If so what is it?

Please teach me.
